Thank you for expressing interest in FOUNDATIONS. We realize that you have a choice in your child’s preschool education and that many options are available. After reading about FOUNDATIONS, we hope that you have become acquainted with the unique program we have created at our academic readiness center.

We recognize that your child may be leaving home for the first time and that this can be an emotional transition. At FOUNDATIONS, it is our mission to provide your child with a safe and nurturing environment as they get started on their academic journey. We want you to feel secure that while at FOUNDATIONS, your child will receive the optimal preschool experience by combining a developmental readiness philosophy in a home like atmosphere.

The result of a “developmental readiness” based approach to pre-school is academic readiness. Academic readiness lays a strong foundation for academic skills such as abstract thought and reasoning (needed for skills such as math, science, and reading comprehension),complex fine and gross motor skills, attention and organization, self-esteem, and self-concept.

At FOUNDATIONS, we realize that we are only part of the education team and that the family plays an essential role on the road to academic success. The sharing of information between school and family is an integral part of our program and a priority which will be carried out throughout the year.

Founding and operating the center, Joanne Lasky OTR/L and Janine Sherk MS OTR/L, have received Bachelors and Masters Degrees from the University at Buffalo and D’Youville College, respectively. Together, both therapists have specialized in the field of pediatrics and pre-school education for over ten years in the WNY area.

It is their strong belief in a developmental philosophy, their passion for education, and their love for children that has resulted in the creation of Foundations Pre-School.
